The Siblings
The story is about two siblings, Tom and Maggie Tulliver, who grew up at Dorlcote Mill on the River Floss. On one hand, Maggie is a passionate woman and a free soul. On the other hand, Tom is a strict man who always follows what their father says to make him proud of his big boy.
The Father
Their father was financially ruined and was a very stubborn man.
Family Honor and Forbidden Love
After his death, Tom rebuilt the family’s honor by paying all their father’s debt, while Maggie had a secret relationship with Philip Wakem, the son of their father’s enemy. At the beginning, they were just friend, but later they fell in love. When Tom found out about the relationship, he prohibited Maggie from continuing to see Philip.
A Complicated Attraction
Later on, she developed an attraction to Stephen Guest, her cousin Lucy’s fiancé.
Washed Away Together
The story ends with the tragic death of the siblings because of a flood just after their reconciliation.
